Equal Rights Center Re-Launches Fair Housing Training Course in New, Interactive Format

October 2, 2023

Today, the Equal Rights Center (ERC) re-launched its General Fair Housing training course in a new, interactive format. The revamped online course offers an engaging and informative learning experience, covering best practices for complying with fair housing laws.

The course explains protections afforded by the federal Fair Housing Act as well as recent developments and hot topics in fair housing, including the intricacies around assistance animals, housing vouchers and source of income discrimination, criminal records screening, and other pertinent issues. The course material is appropriate for experienced housing providers as well as industry newcomers.

The course is available now on the Equal Rights Learning Center (ERLC). In addition to the General Fair Housing course, the ERLC offers specialized, in-depth, modules on important fair housing topics. These courses make great supplements to the general course, providing more comprehensive training on complex issues like assistance animals and criminal records screening.

“We’ve observed through our work the devastating consequences of housing professionals not knowing fair housing law,” commented ERC Executive Director Kate Scott. “The ERC’s courses empower housing professionals to be proactive and stay up-to-date on their fair housing obligations, helping to ensure everyone receives fair treatment.”

The ERC offers a suite of fair housing compliance services in addition to its online courses. Take advantage of live classes either in-person or via webinar for a customized, interactive learning experience. The ERC also conducts compliance testing; a controlled process designed to identify differences in treatment afforded to individuals who are similar in every significant respect except the variable being tested (for example, race or number of children). Testing allows the ERC to measure compliance with civil rights laws and offer targeted recommendations.

Fair housing compliance is the law, and it’s good for business. With a legacy spanning four decades, the ERC is a trusted, expert resource for professionals navigating their fair housing obligations. Take advantage of our new General Fair Housing training course and other compliance services today to help your business thrive.

The ERC is a civil rights organization that identifies and seeks to eliminate unlawful and unfair discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodations in its home community of Greater Washington DC and nationwide. The ERC’s core strategy for identifying unlawful and unfair discrimination is civil rights testing. When the ERC identifies discrimination, it seeks to eliminate it through the use of testing data to educate the public and business community, support policy advocacy, conduct compliance testing and training, and, if necessary, take enforcement action.
