Behind the Scenes: Notes from the Executive Director’s Desk

Warm wishes for cold days

As this year draws to a close, many of us are feeling the weight of what it means to live in a time when hard-won civil rights protections are being dismantled. It has been frightening to see such deep-seated, basic protections undermined so intentionally and forcefully.

But even in this darkness, I’ve been thinking about what this season shows us. During the shortest, coldest days of the year, living things turn inward, gathering strength in preparation for spring. The pause is not surrender. It is survival. It is faith in what will come next.

That’s how I think about the work of the Equal Rights Center right now. We are tending the roots of justice — holding our ground through this harsh winter, building for a sunnier tomorrow. We remain grounded in our belief that equality is not just a principle to defend; it’s a promise to keep alive.

Thank you for standing with us in this work — for choosing courage, compassion, and community when it matters most. May the turning of the season remind us that even the smallest acts of endurance can carry us toward brighter days.

With warmth and gratitude,
Kate

P.S. You can help us weather the storm and emerge stronger with a donation.
