A lawsuit filed by the ERC alleged that Equity Residential engaged in a pattern or practice of designing and constructing most, if not all, of its nearly 300 multi-family housing complexes in violation of the Fair Housing Act. The two parties reached a settlement in which Equity agreed to survey and remediate conditions within housing units across 85 of its properties nationwide to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities.
