Following an investigation into the accessibility of rental housing in the D.C. region, ERC sued AvalonBay Communities, alleging that the ERC alleged violations of the Fair Housing Act and Americans with Disabilities Act at 100 of the company’s complexes. ERC reached a settlement agreement wherein AvalonBay made a ten-year commitment to the ERC’s Multifamily Housing Resource Program, which provides fair housing training and compliance testing to ensure ongoing accessibility.
