This year marks the Equal Rights Center's 25th Year Anniversary. For a quarter of a century the ERC has been dedicated to advancing civil rights. Please join the ERC in protecting civil rights for the future.
Beginning in 1983 as the Fair Housing Council of Greater Washington, we focused on educating and counseling the public on all forms of discrimination in housing and fighting against acts of discrimination wherever we found them. Joining with the Fair Employment Council of Greater Washington in 1999, we expanded the scope of our educational, counseling and advocacy programs to include discrimination in the workplace and became the Equal Rights Center. In 2005, we expanded again, joining with the Disability Rights Council (DRC) and its membership to grow our programs protecting the civil rights of persons with disabilities in all aspects of daily life.
With each step in its growth, the mission of the ERC has grown. Today, the ERC addresses issues of discrimination in six areas: fair housing, fair employment, disability rights, access to public accommodations, access to government services, and immigrant rights. Please click on one of the links below for a more detailed description of each program area.
